OUR WAX ACCESSORIES

African wax is a cotton fabric tinted on both sides with a wax or resin treatment, which gives it a slighlty shiny apperance. It was born in the mid XIXth century and comes from batik techniques.

It is very much appreciated in West and South Africa. It is worn as a message to friends, family or for such circumstances as weddings, coming out of maternity...

Wax messages : examples

1) Mandela steps : wax created at the time of Nelson Mandela's liberation


2) Sankara's tears (wax realized a few time after Thomas Sankara's death). He was President of Burkina Faso


3) Wax "My husband can do it" means he can afford it to give it to you as a present!


4) African wax fabric : "you go out, I go out" : birds closed in a cage, one goes out, the other follows, an african woman will not let herself enclosed at home while her husband is having fun!!!


5) Wax fabric "I run faster than my rival" - A traditional wax meaning roughly : "I am the best woman in town"


6) African wax "Roi du Zaïre (King of Zaïre)" - Zaïre has been renamed RDC (République démocratique du Congo), but the name of the pattern still remains!


7) African wax "the eye of my rival" - signifying "I keep an eye on my husband!"


8) Wax fabric "My husband can do it" (2), with the widepsread lips pattern, meaning "my husband has mony, but also, he can make it in bed!"
